Volleyball Central: Michigan and Illinois

The Indiana Volleyball team (13-15, 6-12 B1G) is set to wrap up a long season this weekend, hosting its last two matches of the year at Wilkinson Hall. The Hoosiers will face Michigan on Wednesday for their first matchup of the season, followed by a rematch against Illinois on Friday to conclude their campaign.

On Friday evening, the team will celebrate seven seniors, including setter Camryn Haworth and outside hitter Mady Saris. Haworth, who has been a starter in nearly every game over the past three years for IU, will play her final match in the cream and crimson.

With 60 career wins under their belts, IU's four-year senior class—comprising Haworth, Saris, defensive specialist Carly Mills, and outside hitter Kenzie Daffinee—aims to finish their home season on a positive note. Securing two victories this week would mark the first time since 1998-2000 that the Hoosiers achieve eight conference wins in three consecutive seasons.

Junior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles delivered her best performances of the season last weekend, tallying 43 kills across matches against UCLA and Ohio State, with an average of 5.38 kills per set. Her 20 kills on Friday (Nov. 22) against the Bruins marked the first occasion since at least 2007 that an IU player achieved 20 kills in a three-set Big Ten match.

AVCA Beach National Championships

Clark and Faychak Place 43rd at the 2024 AVCA Beach National Championships.

It was a momentous weekend for Chattanooga beach volleyball as UTC's Neva Clark and McKenna Faychak returned home after finishing 43rd out of 64 teams at the 2024 AVCA Beach National Championships held at The John Hunt Park San Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Alabama.

By simply participating, Clark and Faychak made history as the first Mocs to compete in the tournament, and they exceeded expectations by qualifying for the Champions Bracket after defeating the No. 24 pairing on Friday. The duo continued their impressive performance in the consolation bracket, securing another upset by beating the No. 30 ranked team from LSU.

"Competing in the AVCA Pairs Tournament this weekend was an unforgettable experience," Clark said. "Kenny (McKenna Faychak) and I have a strong, trusting partnership which allowed us to compete with some super talented teams this weekend. "We were super proud to represent UTC at the tournament, and it was great to showcase the strength of our program while competing against some of the top talent in the country."

Clark and Faychak concluded their time in Huntsville with a record of 2-4, achieving the highest number of wins among the three Ohio Valley Conference pairs invited to the tournament. The UTC duo secured their spot in the competition after the Chattanooga beach volleyball team qualified for the 2024 NCAA Team Tournament last season, earning the Mocs an automatic entry into this weekend's event.
