Mrazova charged up for new season

Film history is filled with sequels that many believe have outshone their originals, such as The Empire Strikes Back and Mad Max: Fury Road. In a similar vein, Katerina Mrazova is optimistic that her second season with the Ottawa team in the PWHL will surpass her first, particularly with hopes for a strong performance with the Czech national team at the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship.

This tournament, featuring ten teams, will take place in Ceske Budejovice from April 9 to 20, marking the first time the Czech Republic has hosted the Women’s Worlds. Mrazova, 32, is anticipated to be a key offensive player both for her national team and the Ottawa Charge.

Last season, she set a strong precedent as the highest-scoring European player in the PWHL, tallying 6 goals and 12 assists for a total of 18 points in 23 games. The talented playmaking center ranked tenth overall in points and tied for fourth in assists alongside Toronto’s Sarah Nurse and Minnesota’s Kelly Pannek.

Canadian and U.S.

Canada-U.S. rivalry reignited

The Canadian and U.S. women's national hockey teams are set to compete again. On Wednesday, the Rivalry Series will kick off at Tech CU University in San Jose, California.

In their last encounter, Canada spoiled the U.S. home advantage by clinching the gold medal at the 2024 IIHF Women's World Championship in Utica, New York, with forward Danielle Serdachny scoring the decisive goal in overtime, leading to a 6-5 victory.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Canadians have come back from a 3-0 series deficit to defeat their rivals 4-3 in both of the last two Rivalry Series. This year, the format has changed from a seven-game series to a five-game series, partly due to the rise in high-level competition for national team players through the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL).

Genève-Servette Secures Victory in the 2024 Champions Hockey League

In an incredible turn of events, Genève-Servette has added another milestone to their record-breaking year. Less than a year after winning their first-ever domestic title in their 118-year history, they have now emerged as the champions of Europe. In an exhilarating final match against Swedish club Skellefteå AIK in the Champions Hockey League, Genève-Servette clinched a nerve-wracking 3-2 victory on home ice. This remarkable achievement not only marks their status as the first Swiss club to win the modern version of the Champions Hockey League but also makes them just the second European club champion from Switzerland.

The atmosphere was electric at Les Vernettes as the sold-out crowd of 7,135 eagerly awaited this historic moment. The excitement in the air was palpable even before the game began, and the home team did not disappoint. In a stunning first period, Genève-Servette managed to score all of their goals, giving the fans plenty to cheer about.

Just five and a half minutes into the game, the home team took the lead with a goal scored by Eliot Berthon. Arnaud Jacquemet set up the goal with a pass from the point, and Berthon successfully beat Linus Söderström with a backhand deke. Despite the net coming off its moorings before the puck crossed the goal line, the goal was deemed valid since it was the goalie's right skate that unintentionally dislodged the post.

2023 NHL Draft

BC's Gabe Perreault: The Rangers' Hidden Gem of the 2023 NHL Draft

The term "steal" is often used casually, but it seems that the New York Rangers truly found one in Gabe Perreault, just seven months after the 2023 NHL Draft. Right from the beginning, there were signs that the Rangers made a wise choice with their 23rd overall pick. Perreault was highly regarded, ranking eighth on Bleacher Report's Big Board and being considered a top-10 prospect by many scouts.

Perreault's performance at Boston College has significantly elevated his status. As the top-ranked team in Men's College Hockey with a remarkable 19-4-1 record, BC's success has been fueled in part by Perreault's contributions. As a freshman, he leads the team in points with an impressive 12 goals and 31 assists in 26 games.

To put it simply, Perreault is not only the leading point producer on the best college hockey team, but he also ranks second in total points (43) across the entire NCAA. Furthermore, he holds the top spot in points-per-game average (1.65).

Considering he is a freshman who doesn't receive the same amount of ice time as first-line players, Perreault's season is exceptional by any measure. From a statistical standpoint, he is having one of the most remarkable seasons by a post-draft player in recent memory.
