Scottie Scheffler

Benny and the five bets I wish I made

Whether it’s fishing or sports betting, the most memorable stories are often about the ones that slipped through our fingers. This PGA TOUR season, I’ve certainly experienced my fair share of golf bets that got away, and I’m sure many of you have too.

Scottie Scheffler at THE PLAYERS Championship: As of after Round 3 at THE PLAYERS Championship, Scottie Scheffler is listed with betting odds of +1100. This places him among the contenders as he heads into the final round of the tournament. Scheffler, the defending champion, has shown strong performance throughout the event, currently sitting in sixth place with a score of -12.

His impressive track record includes winning the tournament in 2023 with a score of -17, showcasing his skills particularly in Strokes Gained metrics, where he ranked highly in both Off-the-Tee and Approach the Green categories. Given his previous success and current form, he remains a significant betting favorite as he aims to secure another title at TPC Sawgrass.

Xander Schauffele's Odds for the PGA Championship: Xander Schauffele is currently listed with odds of +1600 for the PGA Championship. This places him among the notable contenders as he prepares for the tournament. Schauffele has recently demonstrated strong form, finishing in second place at the Wells Fargo Championship, which adds to his momentum heading into this major event.

Born on October 25, 1993, in San Diego, California, Schauffele has made a name for himself in professional golf, having won two major championships in 2024, including the PGA Championship and the Open Championship. His consistent performance on the PGA TOUR has established him as a formidable competitor, and many are eager to see how he will perform in the upcoming championship.

Hideki Matsuyama's Performance at The Genesis Invitational: After Round 3 at The Genesis Invitational, Hideki Matsuyama had odds of +12500 to win the tournament. Despite starting the final round six strokes behind the leader, Matsuyama delivered an outstanding performance, shooting a remarkable final-round score of 62. This score included a series of birdies, as he made three consecutive birdies at the start and again on the back nine, ultimately finishing the tournament at 17 under par.

His impressive comeback not only secured him the victory but also marked his ninth title on the PGA Tour. This win was significant for Matsuyama, as it helped him regain momentum in his season and move up in the world rankings.

FedExCup Fall

The Five: Reflecting on the Top Five Stories from FedExCup Fall

As we look back on the FedExCup Fall, it's time to highlight the top five stories that stood out during this period. With the stage set for the 2025 PGA TOUR season, we can now transition from reflecting on the fall events to anticipating what lies ahead. Here are the key narratives to remember from this season's FedExCup Fall.

The 2024 PGA TOUR season has come to a close. It kicked off 11 months ago with Chris Kirk's uplifting victory at The Sentry and concluded last week at The RSM Classic, where Maverick McNealy celebrated his first win after overcoming years of injury struggles. Throughout the season, we witnessed remarkable dominance from Scottie Scheffler, the rise of Xander Schauffele as a legitimate major champion, and countless other narratives—too many to detail in this space.

There is still some excitement on the horizon for 2024. An additional five golfers (and ties) from the final stage of the PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry will secure fully exempt status, but overall, the stage is nearly set for the 2025 PGA TOUR season. Before we shift our focus to previewing next year's events, let's take a moment to conclude the fall season.

Ryo Hisatsune

Ryo Hisatsune's Journey into a Dreamland Upon Receiving an Invitation to Masters

Japanese newcomer Ryo Hisatsune found himself in a state of pure elation after being granted one of the highly coveted invitations to compete in the prestigious Masters Tournament at Augusta National in April. At just 21 years old, Hisatsune, currently participating in the Mexico Open on the PGA TOUR, will have the opportunity to join his fellow countryman and reigning Masters champion, Hideki Matsuyama, in the 88th edition of this esteemed golf event.

Reflecting on the unforgettable moment, Hisatsune shared his disbelief upon receiving an unexpected phone call from Augusta National. The anticipation built as he wondered about the identity of the caller. To his amazement, it was Augusta National delivering the incredible news. Overwhelmed with excitement, Hisatsune's reaction was immediate and intense. Jumping up in his room, he couldn't contain his emotions, shaking with surprise and rendered speechless by the magnitude of the honor bestowed upon him.

"Winning the title, just like Hideki did, and now having the opportunity to play in the Masters, it feels like my dream has finally become a reality."

As Hisatsune prepares to set foot on the revered Augusta National course this coming spring, it will signify another remarkable achievement in his burgeoning career. Having honed his skills on the professional circuit in Japan, where he secured three victories on the developmental tour, Hisatsune went on to earn his DP World Tour card through Qualifying School at the close of 2022. Further solidifying his status, he made history as only the third Japanese golfer to claim a triumphant victory at the Cazoo Open de France last year.

Nick Taylor

Canadian golfer Nick Taylor's victory at the WM Phoenix Open propels him to the third position in the International Team standings.

Canadian golfer Nick Taylor secured his fourth PGA TOUR victory at the WM Phoenix Open on Sunday, defeating Charley Hoffmann with a birdie-3 on the second playoff hole. This win propelled the 35-year-old up 11 spots in the International Team standings for the Presidents Cup, now ranking at No. 3. With just over seven months remaining until the event takes place at The Royal Montreal Golf Club, Taylor is closely trailing Tom Kim and Jason Day.

This triumph marks Taylor's first victory since his thrilling playoff win at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, where he made history as the first Canadian to win the national championship in 69 years. Following his success at TPC Scottsdale, he climbed to No. 6 in the FedExCup rankings and secured a spot in the top-5 of the International Team standings. Taylor now has his sights set on representing Captain Mike Weir's team in Montreal this September.

When asked about his goals for representing Canada later this year, Nick Taylor expressed his desire to have both process goals and specific achievements to strive for. He highlighted the Olympics and the Presidents Cup as significant events on his goal list. Taylor emphasized the importance of having something to look forward to in addition to focusing on the process.

For the 2024 International Team, there will be a total of six automatic qualifiers and six Captain's picks. The Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) will determine the automatic qualifiers, with the top six eligible international players in the OWGR after the conclusion of the 2024 BMW Championship securing their spots. Currently, there are six Canadian players ranked within the top 20 in the standings: Nick Taylor (3), Corey Conners (10), Adam Hadwin (13), Adam Svensson (16), Mackenzie Hughes (18), and Taylor Pendrith (20).
